Eid al-Adha in Canada
Eid Al-Adha, also known as _Festival of Sacrifice, is an Islamic festival celebrated worldwide every year. The history of this festival goes back to the willingness of prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to Allah's (God) command. But, before prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) could sacrifice his son, Allah (God) provided him a lamb to sacrifice instead.
To commemorate this incident, Muslims in Canada, as well as all over the world, scrifice an animal (usually it is a sheep) and divided into three parts: 1/3 of the share is given to the poor and needy people, 1/3 is for personal consume, and the last 1/3 is given to relatives as a gift.
