Nova Scotia NS statutory holidays:
In the province/territory of Nova Scotia, Victoria Day, Boxing day, Thanksgiving and Remembrance Day are not observed as statutory holidays. Boxing Day is considered a public holiday, when shops are normally closed.
Remembrance Day, although is not a statutory holiday, it is defined under the Nova Scotia's Remembrance Day Act as a holiday, and the employers have an option of giving Remembrance Day or an alternate day off.
Similar to Remembrance Day, Natal Day (First Monday in August) is also not regarded as a holiday but commonly a day off.
In 2021, Heritage Day will be observed on February 15th, same as Viola Desmond Day. And in 2022, Heritage Day will be on Monday, February 21st.
In the year 2017, it will be Mi'kmaq Heritage Day and, in 2018, Mona Louise Parsons Day.
In Nova Scotia, Canada Day rules stay on July 1st, even when it falls on a Sunday. The holiday pay and retail closing rules apply on July 1, 2021. The Labour Standards Code gives employees who qualify 06 holidays with pay. These holidays are: New Year's Day, Nova Scotia Heritage Day, Good Friday, Labour Day, Canada Day and Christmas Day.
