In 2021, the muslims' fasting month, Ramadan, will start on Monday, the 12th of April and will continue for 30 days until Tuesday, the 11th of May. (Beginning and ending of Ramadan depends on the lunar calender.)
Ramadan in 2022 will start on Saturday, the 2nd of April and will continue for 30 days until Sunday, the 1st of May. (Beginning and ending of month Ramadan follows the muslim lunar calender.)
Although month Ramadan is always on the same day of the Islamic calendar,
the date on the Gregorian calendar varies from year to year, due to the fact that, the
Gregorian calendar is a solar calendar and the Islamic calendar is a
lunar calendar. This difference between the two calendars means that Ramadan moves in the Gregorian
calendar approximately 11 days every year.
The first day of Ramadan may also
vary from country to country depending on whether the moon has been
sighted or not.
Note: The dates mentioned here are based on the dates adopted by the Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA) for the celebration of Ramadan. These dates are based on
astronomical calculations to affirm each date, and not on the actual
sighting of the moon with naked eyes. This approach is adopted by many islamic societies.
