Eid Al-Fitr is an Islamic holiday that is celebrated by all muslims arround the world. It marks the end of the month of fasting called, Ramadan. It is one of the two Islamic major festivals, with Eid Al-Adha being the other major festival. Many Muslims in Canada celebrate Eid Al-Fitr on the first day of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar

Eid Al-Fitr is not q public holiday in Canada. Retail stores and businesses are open like normal. However, many Islamic businesses and organizations may alter their business hours during this holiday.

- In 2021 Eid Al-Fitr in Canada will be observed on Thursday, Mai, 13th. 

- However, Eid al-Fitr in 2022 is on Tuesday, May, 3rd.

- And in 2023, Eid al-Fitr will be on Saturday, April 22.

Eid Al-Fitr Customs and Traditions in Canada:

Eid Al-Fitr is a very important Islamic holiday for the Muslim community in Canada as well as for other muslim communities arround the world. On this day, many muslims wake up early, dress in their finest clothes in order to perform Eid Al-Fitr prayer, which can be either at an outdoor prayer ground or a mosque. At Eid Al-fitr's eve, muslims decorate their homes with lights and other decorations.

The main purpose of this holiday is to praise God and thank him according to Islamic belief. On Eid Al-Fitr, money is given to the poor and delicious foods are prepared. People visit relatives and eat food and cakes together. Children get gifts on Eid Al-Fitr. 

Political leaders in Canada usually make statements to wish their best to the muslim communities during Eid al-Fitr celebrations. 

The month of Ramadan ends after a confirmed sighting of the new moon, which may be sighted earlier or later in specific locations. Hence, Muslims in different communities, for example on the east and west coasts of the USA and Canada, may have the Eid Al-Fitr on different dates.
